Primitive 19th c. Salt Glazed Stoneware Jug E.S. & B Cobalt Newbrighton PA 4 Gal
Sold by Brothers Antiques
$250.00
Elverson, Sherwood and Barker
Some staining, but no cracks, breaks, chips, or other flaws or repairs
I could not find another example of an example of an ES & B jug with an "X" mark near the spout.
It is possible that the "X" mark was made for a specific contract in which the user was going to use it to store ink or industrial chemicals, rather than the traditional liquor, whiskey, wine, or cider. In which, the mark would have been used to indicate that it shall not be consumed.
