How Pickleball Quietly Became One Of Fond du Lac’s Fastest Growing Sports
by Shane Michael · 5/22/2026

What started as a random stop at the pickleball courts at Adelaide Park quickly turned into a new favorite hobby, with daily games, friendly competition, and plenty of laughs throughout the summer. Easy to learn and fun for all ages, it’s easy to see why pickleball has become one of the fastest-growing sports in Fond du Lac and across the country.
Last year my wife and I were out disc golfing at Adelaide Park when we noticed the pickleball courts packed with people playing. At that point I honestly didn’t know much about the sport other than hearing people talk about it all the time. So after we left the park, we stopped at Walmart, grabbed two paddles and some balls, went home, looked up the rules online, and decided to give it a shot.
From there, we were hooked. We played almost daily for the rest of the summer. There’s just something energizing about it. You’re moving around, laughing, getting competitive, and having fun all at the same time. It’s one of those sports where you can show up planning to play for 30 minutes and suddenly realize two hours went by. It honestly became one of our favorite ways to get outside and spend time together.
What’s really cool is that almost anybody can play pickleball. You don’t have to be some crazy athlete or be in perfect shape to enjoy it. I’ve seen younger people playing, older couples playing, families playing, and complete beginners out there learning as they go just like we did. It’s easy to pick up, super social, and it’s easy to see why it’s becoming one of the fastest growing sports around Fond du Lac and all over the country.
