A Holiday I Didn’t Always Get to Be Part Of.. Easter Sunday

Easter always kind of sneaks up on me, but at the same time it feels like that turning point. You start to feel winter finally loosening its grip, the days are getting longer, and you just know summer is right around the corner. You go from bundling up every day to thinking about being outside again, opening windows, and getting back to life a little bit.
For a long time, Easter was one of those holidays I didn’t get to fully be part of. I’ve worked full time weekends at Merc for almost 10 years, so I missed a lot of those family gatherings growing up and into my adult life. It was just part of the routine. You’d see pictures later or hear about it, but you weren’t there for the little moments. The past few years though, being able to actually make it has meant a lot more than I probably would’ve realized back then.
Now it’s something I look forward to. Every year we head over to my aunt’s house, and it’s just simple family time. Nothing crazy, just good food, people hanging out, and catching up. Those are the kind of days that mean the most. It’s not about doing anything big, it’s just being there.
Easter for me now is less about the holiday itself and more about what it represents. Family, slowing down for a minute, and that feeling that better weather and good times are right around the corner. After a long Wisconsin winter, I’ll take that every single time.
