I recently wanted to take a closer look at what LakeHouse has to offer and what makes this community different from simply moving into another apartment or residential facility.

And staying connected to the community is important.

Fond du Lac has plenty going on, and assisted living doesn't necessarily mean someone has to become disconnected from the city they've called home.

Those personal observations can be useful because assisted living isn't just about the physical building.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services lists LakeHouse Fond du Lac as a registered Residential Care Apartment Complex. Its most recent publicly available inspection summary covers January 2022 through January 2025. That report shows a 2024 complaint investigation in which the listed complaint areas were not substantiated, and no statement of deficiency was issued.

That's useful information, but the Wisconsin DHS itself cautions that its information should not be the sole source used when selecting a facility.

And I think that's good advice.

Do your homework.

Visit the facility.

Talk with staff.

Talk with residents and their families when appropriate.

Ask about costs, services, staffing, care levels, medications, transportation, meals and what happens if a resident's needs change.
