Walleye Weekend: A Fondy Tradition

Every year when Walleye Weekend rolls around, there's a pretty good chance you'll find me down at Lakeside Park with a group of friends. I've been going for years, and it's one of those events that just feels like the official kickoff to summer in Fond du Lac.

Every year when Walleye Weekend rolls around, there's a pretty good chance you'll find me down at Lakeside Park with a group of friends. I've been going for years, and it's one of those events that just feels like the official kickoff to summer in Fond du Lac. The music, the crowds, the lake views, and seeing so many people out enjoying themselves always makes for a good time.

One of the first things I usually do when I get there is grab an order of cheese curds. They're hot, crispy, and probably one of my favorite things to eat all year. If I'm spending the day at Walleye Weekend, cheese curds are pretty much a requirement.

After that, I'm usually on the hunt for a walleye fish sandwich. It wouldn't really be Walleye Weekend without one. There's just something about sitting at a picnic table overlooking the lake, eating a walleye sandwich, and catching up with friends that never gets old. It's simple, but it's a tradition I've come to look forward to every year.

As much as I enjoy the food, what keeps me coming back is the atmosphere. It's one of the few weekends where it seems like the entire community comes together in one place. You run into people you haven't seen in years, listen to some live music, and spend a few hours just enjoying summer in Fond du Lac. For me, that's what Walleye Weekend is really all about.
