Antique Primitive 19th c. American Primitive Ladderback Rush Seat Chair Painted Folk Art 1830s Civil War Era

A fantastic early American primitive red-painted ladderback chair or small side chair, circa 1840–1870. Features a worn original or early red-painted surface with exceptional dry patina, turned finials, three arched ladderback slats, and a handwoven rush seat.

Note, alterations have been made to the back two legs. It is plausible that this had been a rocker and was converted to a standard dining chair

Measures approximately 15.5” from the floor to the seat, and 38” from the floor to the top of the back rest acorn finials.

Seat area measures 16.5” x 13” deep

Due to the chair’s age and antique nature, it is being sold primarily as a collectible and decorative display piece rather than for regular everyday use.
