Antique South Asia / Indian Spring Steel Chopping Axe Tool Head Eagle Logo
Sold by Brothers Antiques
$25.00
An unusual early 20th-century chopping axe or tool head with a tang mark of a bird / eagle with text reading "Spring".
Text on the reverse side and along the stem of the tool head reads "Syahrana".
I attempted research on the piece and could not find anything. All that I could find is that it was common in the early half of the 20th century for India and South Asian countries to use spring steel, especially from old recycled vehicle leaf springs.
My best interpretation is that this was likely used for chopping/cleaving for agricultural or woodworking use , splitting wood logs, cutting bamboo etc.
Approx.8" x 2.75" long cutting edge
