Rare Antique Cast Iron Horse Head Hitching Post Top Primitive Farm Equestrian Architectural Salvage

Sold by Brothers Antiques

$275.00

A remarkable circa 1890s antique cast iron horse head hitching post top featuring an uncommon fixed iron tie bar beneath the chin. Unlike many examples that utilize a hanging ring, this design appears to have been intended for wrapping reins or a lead rope directly around the iron bar.

Measures approximately 13" tall with a 3-1/8" interior mounting socket. Heavy cast iron construction with traces of original paint and wonderful aged patina throughout. The piece was manufactured using a two-piece mold, with the mold seam still visible.

Displays wear consistent with age and outdoor use. There is a casting break/opening on the side of the muzzle as shown in the photos. Additional casting damage and losses are present around the decorative collar/base area, along with surface rust, paint loss, and general age-related wear. Zip ties have been temporarily added to hold the two casting halves together for photography and display purposes.
