Fond du Lac has a special way of bringing the Christmas season to life, and one
cherished tradition that continues to warm hearts is Holy Family Catholic Church’s Living Nativity. Since 2016, every other year, Holy Family invites the community to step into the story of Christmas and experience the beauty of the season in a truly memorable way with this live storytelling program. Narrated by Fr. Ryan Pruess, pastor for Holy Family Catholic Community, volunteers portray The Holy Family, shepherds and
angels, while live animals—including camels carrying the Three Wise Men, along with sheep, goats, and donkeys—bring an unforgettable sense of realism to the scene of the birth of Jesus. All accompanied by Christmas music performed by the Holy Family Choir
and musicians.
What makes Holy Family’s Living Nativity especially meaningful is the sense of
togetherness it creates. Families, parish members, and volunteers of all ages come together to share a message of hope, humility, and love. After experiencing the Nativity program, guests are invited into Holy Family’s gathering area where a petting zoo is set up, giving children and adults alike the chance to interact with the animals up close.
Holy Family Catholic Church’s Living Nativity remains a heartfelt gift to the Fond du Lac community. Rooted in faith, the tradition offers something rare during the busy holiday season, with providing a moment to pause, connect, and reflect on the true meaning of Christmas, surrounded by community and kindness.
