I had a chance to stop out at Marian University this week for the unveiling of their brand new on-campus disc golf course, and it’s a really cool addition to the area.
This wasn’t just thrown together either. The idea came from the university’s Campus Services department as a way to get students more involved on campus and give them something fun to do together. Kyle Beck, who helped lead the project, actually designed the course himself and worked alongside the Marian Ultimate Frisbee Club to help build interest and get students engaged.
A couple other names Kyle made sure to mention were Todd Buss, who helped guide the project and get others around campus involved, and Evan Czysz, a math professor at Marian who will be running tournaments and leagues on the new 9-hole course. So this isn’t just a one-time thing, they’re planning to keep it active and give people reasons to come back.
What I liked most about this is the reason behind it. The goal was simple. Give students more options, help them make memories, and build a stronger community. Disc golf is easy to pick up, it’s affordable, and it naturally brings people together. And now it’s something not just for students, but for the entire Fond du Lac community to enjoy.
