Mercury Marine Earns Spot Among Wisconsin’s Best Employers

by Shane Michael · 8/29/2026

Mercury Marine has long been a major part of Fond du Lac, and its recognition as a great place to work is something the community can be proud of. After 15 years with the company, one local employee shares why Mercury has given him a career, friendships, and a workplace he’s still proud to be part of.

When Forbes puts together a list of some of the best places to work in Wisconsin, it’s pretty cool to see a company from right here in Fond du Lac getting recognition. Mercury Marine, headquartered here in Fond du Lac, has a long history of being recognized as a strong employer, and its parent company Brunswick has also repeatedly received national workplace recognition from Forbes. This one is a little more personal for me. This February marked 15 years since I walked through the doors at Mercury Marine. That’s a pretty big chunk of my life. Over those 15 years, I’ve worked with a lot of great people, watched the company continue to grow and change, and built a lot of friendships along the way. I can genuinely say that I still really enjoy my job and the people I get to work with.

Mercury is also a huge part of Fond du Lac. It’s not just another company with a building here. The Fond du Lac campus is roughly 3 million square feet, and Brunswick says Mercury employs about 2,200 union workers in Wisconsin while generating an estimated $5.4 billion annual economic impact for the Fond du Lac community. When a company that size succeeds, that impact reaches well beyond the people working inside the plant. (Brunswick Corporation)

After 15 years, I think one of the biggest compliments I can give Mercury is pretty simple: I still like going to work. No workplace is perfect, but Mercury has given me a good career, good friends and a place I’ve been proud to call my workplace for a decade and a half. Seeing a company that means so much to Fond du Lac receive recognition as a great place to work is pretty awesome. And from someone who has spent 15 years there, I can say I’m proud to be a small part of it.
